Prof. Alfonso Jaramillo received a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from the University of Valencia (Spain) in 1999. After conducting postdoctoral research in computational biology at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) and Harvard University (USA), he joined the biochemistry faculty of the Ecole Polytechnique in September 2003. In March 2008, he also started the Synth-Bio ATIGE group at Genopole (France), which includes molecular biology facilities. His research interests are on the development and use of automatic computational procedures to design biological systems. He is also
involved in the design and construction of biological parts, devices and systems. He is coordinator of the BioModularH2 European consortium for cyanobacterial hydrogen production, and participant of various international synthetic biology projects. He has published 30 refereed articles and conference proceedings, and he is member of the editorial board of the IET Synthetic Biology journal.
