From Modeling to Engineering Biological Processes
European American Innovation Day EAID’08

Mathematical biology has for a long time aimed at understanding the dynamics of complex biological processes with relatively few equations. To scale-up with the large experimental data sets now available, systems biology aims at developing an integrative approach borrowing concepts from other disciplines including computer science, programming theory and control theory. The current developments of computational models of cells and tissues are impacting many domains ranging from cell biology to medicine. This meeting will present ongoing research in the USA and in Europe on the modeling of the living at the cellular level.

It will take place following the conference "Frontiers in Synthetic Biology".

About EAID

Organized for several years by the French Office for Science and Technology in Boston, FAID is an annual French American symposium gathering scientists, industry representatives and investors in state-of-the-art technologies. This year, with the French presidency of the European Union, it has been decided to highlight European research in order to promote European and American science and technology on a topic of relevant interest and to foster the development of collaborations between laboratories and companies overseas.
Renamed European American Innovation Day for this occasion, it will allow the best European and American teams to present advancements of their work in front of the scientific community in Boston. Speakers were selected for their excellence by our partners: INRIA in Paris and Dana Farber Cancer Institute inBoston and will provide us an in-depth overview of this fascinating field of modeling for life sciences.

INRIA's ambition is to be a world player, a research institute at the heart of the information society.

INRIA, the French national institute for research in computer science and control is dedicated to fundamental and applied research in information and communication science and technology (ICST). The Institute also plays a major role in technology transfer by fostering training through research, diffusion of scientific and technical information, development, as well as providing expert advice and participating in international programs.
